We Explain Ballot Measures
LWV provides speakers to explain ballot measures throughout the community - at libraries, churches, clubs and homes.

We Moderate Candidate Forums
After a brief introduction from the LWV moderator and opening statements from each candidate, the moderator asks questions submitted from the audience on index cards. Verbal questions from the audience are typically not allowed in order to avoid duplicate questions, possible personal attacks and opportunities for the questioner to make a speech rather than asking a question.
Every candidate answers every question in a rotating order and also makes a closing statement.

Our Members
Our members thrive on learning about unbiased political information hard to find elsewhere. Research information from National and State LWV as well as our own analysis, gives us what we need to assist others in making clear and objective voting decisions.
Monthly member meetings offer local professional guest speakers with public policy information that impacts Placer County residents in a format that allows direct questions from the audience.
We are a group of people engaged in our communities and always welcoming new members.

Continually build knowledge of political processes and public policy to deliver unbiased, easy to access and reliable information to as many Placer County citizens as possible.

Vision
LWVPC becomes the primary source for Placer County citizens to obtain unbiased, reliable public policy information they need to make informed decisions.
External Environment Assessment
Placer County spans 100 miles of diverse geography and socioeconomic levels. The majority of the population is in the southwest end of the county, from Auburn to Roseville where LWVPC services focus, leaving the remainder of the county under served.
Internal Organization Assessment
Members are highly-motivated, naturally-aligned citizens, most of who reside in and around the Roseville/Rocklin and Auburn areas. Members are actively aware of politics and public policy, some having run for and some holding public office. The full capacity of this high powered membership has been underutilized to date.
Membership spiked to over 71 the year LWVPC began and has been approximately 50 since then. Member diversity does not match the diversity of Placer County voters, leaving non-white, younger, less affluent and those living in the eastern end of the county underrepresented in our membership.
Budget
LWVPC retains at least 50% of the amount of the yearly budget in reserve.
Approximate distribution of expenses:
- 70% research and education on issues
- 23% delivery of information to public
- 7% operating expense
- Approximate distribution of Income:
- 69% dues (95% allocated to national and state research)
- 31% polls (100% retained for LWVPC use)
Communications
Our website is the hub for communication that is:
- Timely, compelling and focused on voters
- Pertaining to local aspects and is personal to our communities
- Consistent and repetitive across channels (social media, press, etc)
- Not wordy + information focused
- Not negative or scary
- Lacking internal jargon
LWV State & National Advocacy
In addition to educational efforts, LWV at the state and national levels after careful study, may influence legislation and advocate for or against particular public policies. Advocacy activities are conducted as a nonprofit 501(c)(4) corporation. Click for more info on advocacy at state or national level.
Therefore, even though LWVPC does not participate in advocacy activities, you may see LWV-California or LWV-US favoring or opposing legislation.
In no case will any level of LWV support or oppose political parties, candidates for elected office, or any group that supports candidates.
