Mai Thao serves as the Central California Lead Regional Program Manager at the California Complete Count – Census 2020 Office. Thao directly supervises Regional Program Managers in the Central California region and directly works with contracted County Partners in Region 4 and 6 (Merced, Madera, Fresno, Kings, Tulare, Kern, and Inyo), stakeholders, and community-based organizations to ensure a collaborative and coordinated process for outreach and education efforts in the California 2020 Census. Prior to her current role, Thao expanded the grassroots non-profit Hmong Innovating Politics from Sacramento to Fresno by serving as their Central Valley Civic Engagement Director from 2017 to 2019. From 2014 to 2017, she served as a Lead Political Community Organizer for Service Employees International Union Local 521, based in the Central Valley.

Thao is a proud aunt to many nieces and nephews and honors her mother, Ka Vue, as the most resilient person she knows; and a continuing example of how to be a better person each and every day.
