The League of Women Voters is proud to be nonpartisan, neither supporting nor opposing candidates or political parties at any level of government, but always working on vital issues of concern to members and the public.

The League of Women Voters of the Redding Area is deeply concerned about the attempts of U.S. Congressional District 1 Representative Doug LaMalfa to disenfranchise tens of thousands of voters by alleging fraud during the 2020 Presidential election. The U.S. Department of Justice and more than 60 court decisions, including those of the U.S. Supreme Court, determined there is no evidence of nor any merit to the accusations of voter fraud. Yet Representative LaMalfa continues to espouse unfounded conspiracy theories to the detriment of our democracy. He has violated his oath of office. This is not a partisan issue. It is a voters’ rights issue, which means it is a LWV issue.

We expect our congressman to uphold his oath to the U.S. Constitution. We are concerned that he has abdicated his responsibility to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution and to uphold our democratic values. We strongly urge his constituents to hold him accountable for his actions.
