Featuring guest speaker, Elahe Amani - Author, Activist, Professor, UN Commission Presenter, Trained Mediator
Elahe Amani is a gender equality, peace, and human rights, activist. She served California State University System in the capacity of senior administrator and lecturer for 31 years. She taught in the Women Studies Programs of California State University (CSU) in Long Beach and Fullerton and as director of Academic and Student Technology. She also served as Deputy Title IX coordinator at CSUF. Elahe has been following the global women’s movement since the third UN Women Conference in Nairobi. She attended and presented at the UN Fourth Women Conference in Beijing, China, and attended UN Commission on the Status of Women.
Elahe is currently the President of Women’s Intercultural Network, a global network with consultancy status with the UN. Elahe is a trained mediator, conflict analysis, conflict management, and conflict transformation since 1992 and has been contributing to the efforts of Mediators Beyond Borders (MBB), for more than a decade. She is Faculty of MBB International Training Institute, network development, and cross-cultural specialist and served as the chair of the inaugural Training Institute of MBB for women leaders in the MENA region. She is also serving on the Strategic Partnership Committee of the National Association of Community Mediation. She has done many presentations on “Gender and Negotiations”, “The Role of Women in Peacemaking” and “Conflict Resolution in a Cross-Cultural Perspectives” and “Workplace Conflicts “.
She has served in many leadership roles at local, statewide and global levels. She is currently President of Women Intercultural Network (WIN), and also served as Chair, International Interest of American Association University Women (AAUW ) in California ( 135 branches in California ), Chair Coaliton of Women from Asia and the Middle East (CWAME ), a women’s human rights organization based in California, Founding member of Iranian Circle of Women’s Intercultural Network, Chair President Commission on the Status of Women at California State University Long Beach and Advisory to the Women Center in CSU Long Beach, and other organizations and networks. Elahe is well-published in English and Persian. Her articles are published by Women News Network, Open Democracy, Truthout, Safe World for Women, Mediators Beyond Borders, UN Women Reporting Network, and many Iranian women / human rights publications.
