How to reorder slideshow and other lists
How to reorder slideshow and other lists
These are the rules for any list/view, but are no longer necessary to reorder the front page/promoted items list since May 2021. See new functions for front page.
You can force-set the order of content, like your slideshow items, by editing the creation dates of each item (found in the Authoring information). By changing the creation date of content (making it older or newer), the order of similar items within a list will be rearranged. The order of lists/views is based on when an item was created in MyLO. The newer or more recently created an item is, the higher priority it gets in a list (descending order).
Examples of views include the slideshow, list of Articles, list of Action Alerts, events on Calendar, list of Positions, and both lists on Members-Only. (The homepage also includes a view but is excluded since the new front page functions were added). Because lists in MyLO prioritize newly made content (fresher creations take priority), you'll need to edit your highest priority item first, then edit the rest in descending order.
Rearranging your Slideshow Items
The slideshow on your homepage orders its items based on descending order (as all other lists) of when the slideshow items were created.
Here's an example of my original set of Slideshow items, and the steps I'll take to rearrange the order:
- Slideshow item #1: created on Dec 23 2021
- Slideshow item #2: created on Feb 4 2022
- Slideshow item #3: created on April 27 2022
- Slideshow item #4: created on June 6 2022
With lists displaying items in descending order, the most recent/latest items appear at the top of the list (or in the case of the slideshow, first). So the order of my slideshow, as described above, would display as:
- slideshow item #4
- slideshow item #3
- slideshow item #2
- slideshow item #1
To rearrange these items, the creation dates must be changed to reflect the new desired order. For example, I want to rearrange my slideshow so that the new order will become:
- slideshow item #3
- slideshow item #4
- slideshow item #1
- slideshow item #2
I would make the following changes to each item to get this new order:
- Slideshow item #1: originally created on Dec 23 2021 - NEW creation date is May 5 2022
- Slideshow item #2: originally created on Feb 4 2022 - NEW creation date is April 1 2022
- Slideshow item #3: originally created on Apr 27 2022 - NEW creation date is Jul 1 2022
- Slideshow item #4: originally created on Jun 6 2022 - creation date can remain as-is since it is between the new creation dates for #1 and #3.
The more recently the item was created, the higher it will sit in the list. You can also set creation dates for a future date if you want an item to remain at the top of the list for a longer period of time.
So now, my list of items promoted to the front page will display in this order:
- Slideshow item #3: creation date is Jul 1 2022
- Slideshow item #4: creation date is Jun 6 2022
- Slideshow item #1: creation date is May 5 2022
- Slideshow item #2: creation date is April 1 2022
TIP: When first changing the creation date to rearrange your list items, it's recommended to start with either the new starting item or ending item. Starting with either the ending point of starting point will make it easier to arrange the rest of the items in your desired order.
