Editing Menu Links
The following settings are available when editing your menu. Although some MyLO sites use a side menu and some use a top menu, all menus function exactly the same and are managed in the same manner.
These instructions begin on Manage Menu (accessible via the Adminsitrator League Menu, or List links).
Need to learn how to get to Manage Menu/List links? Watch the first 2 minutes of this video.
Menu settings and their purpose
- Add link - create a new menu link. (NOTE: you must have the URL/path to create a new link via this method. See another method for adding a menu link.)
- Menu link - each menu link (enabled and disabled) appears in this list. A main menu link refers to the menu links at the top of your menu (those that by default display in all caps, and for red & blue sites, each features a star bullet point).
- Grabby handles - related to Show row weights. These handles appear for you to easily rearrange the menu. Don't see them? Click on Hide row weights to reveal the grabby handles.
- Enabled - Menu links that are not enabled will not be listed in your menu.
- Operations
- Edit - make changes to a particular menu link
- Delete (if this isn't available on Manage Menu/List Links, go to Edit)
- Save Configuration (button) - saves your order when menu links are rearranged and/or enabled/disabled. This button is only necessary to use when this warning pops up:
The warning and an asterisk next to the affected menu link(s) appear when a rearrangement has not yet been saved. The warning will not appears when checking/unchecking the 'Enabled' setting.
Edit options for each menu link
- Menu link title - the text to be used for this link in the menu.
- Path - the path for this menu link. This can be an internal path such as node/add (i.e. california/demo-site/calendar) or a URL such as http://example.com (i.e. https://google.com, https://my.lwv.org/california). Enter <front> to link to the front page (NOTE: <front> refers to the MyLO front page at https://my.lwv.org.)
- Description - if text is added here, that text appears to visitors when they hover over this menu link.
- Enabled - menu links that are not enabled will not be listed in any menu.
- Show as expanded - if selected and this menu link has children, the menu will always appear expanded.
- Parent link - the menu link contained within the less-than and greater-than symbols is the top of the menu (i.e. <Demo Site>), so any menu link with this as its parent link will be a main menu item. Within the dropdown list, additional menu links appear with dashes, with the number of dashes representing each menu link's position in the menu/hierarchy.
- Weight - Optional. In the menu, the heavier links will sink and the lighter links will be positioned nearer the top.
- Save (button) -
- Delete - removes the menu link entirely. If a parent link is removed, the child link(s) fall into the parent link's place in the menu. For example, a main menu link ABOUT has two child links: CONTACT US and EVENTS. If I delete ABOUT from the menu, CONTACT US and EVENTS then both become main menu links.
