Can you give us a status report on the budgeting and planning going forward in preparation for the construction of a new high school? What is the current time line?
The LHS School Building Committee is currently wrapping up the Massachusetts School Building Authority (MSBA) eligibility period and will be moving on to the feasibility study stage very soon. It is anticipated that the MSBA will vote to invite the LHS project into the capital pipeline on March 1, 2023. Lexington Public Schools has avoided unnecessary spending in order to turn back leftover funds from the operating budget, which has contributed to the Capital Stabilization Fund. This fund will help offset the burden of such a large capital project on Lexington taxpayers. Community members can stay updated on the project on the project website, lhsproject.lexingtonma.org.
