Why are you running for a position as a Town Meeting Member? Is there a particular issue you hope to address?
As a resident of four decades, I have seen the changes as Lexington has evolved to a diverse and socially concerned community. Recent and proposed changes in zoning have pushed the Town toward higher density residency at an expanding environmental cost and urbanization. Recently adopted and proposed changes to zoning need to be re-evaluated in the broader context of the community’s environmental quality. The preservation of the Town’s historic built environment is essential to retaining the town’s character. Further refinements to its historic preservation by-laws are warranted. The restoration of the Stone Building is one important example of how a neglected historic Town property can be converted into a significant asset for the entire community.
As a Town Meeting member, I hope to assure that proposed zoning and land use changes are carefully and completely evaluated before their adoption. I also hope that the recommendations of the recently completed master plan concerning historic preservation be adopted.
