Why are you running for a position as a Town Meeting Member?  Is there a particular issue you hope to address?

Although I am running for Town Meeting for the first time in Precinct 3, I have been in Town Meeting for many years representing other precincts.  Local Government is about fostering community and providing services.  Approaching every issue with an open mind is key.  This year there are two issues, among many, that stand out.  First, with larger capital projects including a new police station and the remodeling of or building a new high school, we need to manage our debt wisely and earn the public support.  In order to maintain our triple Aaa bond rating, which helps to lower our costs for borrowing, I support continuing to fund Stabilization Funds which will be used in the future to pay a portion of our debt rather than using those funds now for yearly operating expenses.  Second, the need for more affordable housing has to be addressed.  The State is now requiring us to zone for more multi-family housing.  Without a lot of fanfare, Lexington has focused for many years on providing affordable housing.  Our Planning Board has come up with a plan to create village overlay districts which I support.  Unchecked development without any zoning control is not an option.
