Why are you running for a position as a Town Meeting Member? Is there a particular issue you hope to address?
During the several decades that I have been honored to serve in Town Meeting, I have had the privilege of participating in the decisions that make Lexington the great community that it is. I appreciate this position and wish to continue to represent the residents of my precinct and the town with dedication.
My primary focus is on the schools which I consider the foundation of our community excellence. I consistently vote in favor of the projects that enhance and maintain our school system. (This was my position even before I had three grandchildren in Lexington Schools as I do now.)
I support the efforts to protect the environment through conservation land maintenance and attention to energy use in new town construction. Town resources including our excellent library, recreation fields and facilities for our retired residents are important parts of our strong community and have my consistent support.
A major issue for the coming Town Meeting is the multi-family zoning required in MBTA communities. This complex issue will require balancing the demands of Massachusetts law with local traditions, the need for housing, including inclusionary, with commercial development, and concerns related to building height. I favor a Lexington which is diverse and vibrant and hope to contribute to fostering such a community through this article.
