The business portion of the meeting will begin at 7 PM. We will elect board officers and review our by-laws, programming and budget.
At 7:15 pm, we will welcome our key note speaker, Jay Kaufman, former State Representative from Lexington and Woburn. He is the founding President of Beacon Leadership Collaborative. Between 1994 and 2019 he served as the State Representative for the 15th Middlesex, retiring after 24 years in January 2019. Jay now writes daily and is publishing weekly essays on Substack (jayrkaufman.substack.com).
The Massachusetts Legislature has a proud history of accomplishment: inventing public education in the 19th century, leading the nation on the path to universal, affordable healthcare, and affirming marriage equality in the 21st century. Lately, however, the stories have also been about the toxic culture and decline of democracy on Beacon Hill. Massachusetts is dead last in legislative accomplishments, effectiveness, transparency, and accountability. What’s going on and what’s to be done? Find out at the Annual Meeting of the Lexington League of Women Voters.
The event will be recorded for later viewing.
