Founded in 2012, National Voter Registration Day (NVRD) is a nationwide civic holiday dedicated to celebrating democracy by registering voters. The League are proud celebrants of this holiday: in 2023, we registered an estimated 100,000 voters on NVRD.
With the monumental 2024 presidential election approaching, LWV and our nonpartisan voter resource, VOTE411.org, committed to making our greatest impact yet. Below is a snapshot of our work. Note that at the time of this blog's publication, much of our data is still being compiled, so final numbers are anticipated to be even larger than what's below.

Voter Registration with Leagues and VOTE411
On NVRD itself, 500 Leagues hosted more than 600 in-person and virtual events. Leagues showed up everywhere, from libraries to naturalization ceremonies to schools, to empower eligible voters to register!
We even partnered with major organizations like the Women's National Basketball Association, MTV, and LUSH Cosmetics to reach new audiences. Nearly 70 LUSH stores nationwide hosted LWV voter registration tables, and members of LWV of the US and LWV of DC, including our CEO Celina Stewart, stopped by a Washington Mystics game to discuss the importance of civic engagement.
Some Leagues partnered with local politicians to share registration resources. The Minnesota League, for example, collaborated with the secretary of state, Minnesota's three main political parties, and student leads to host and share educational videos with 150 schools statewide.

Our online, nonpartisan election information resource, VOTE411, empowered hundreds of thousands of voters to register and get their voting information. In the September run-up to NVRD, 387,000 users visited VOTE411. In terms of voter registration, 4x more people registered on VOTE411 than during the equivalent period in 2022 (leading up to the midterm elections).
Leagues also contacted voters using texting and relational organizing (reaching out to personal contacts to promote a cause). Volunteers in Kentucky reached 70k women voters via text campaigns using our organizing app League in Action, and went door-to-door meeting voters. In Florida, as part of LWV's Young Voter Power initiative, Leagues organized multi-day voter registration and "GOTV" (get out the vote) events in partnership with organizations like the Transformative Justice Coalition, Rhizome, and the NAACP Florida, among others.

Shout-outs from the Vice President, Cyndi Lauper, and More!
Our work on NVRD gained attention from some notable public figures and media outlets.
Vice President Kamala Harris recognized the League alongside other voting rights organizations in an Instagram post, sharing a picture of LWV President Dianna Wynn registering voters with the Wake County, North Carolina League.
Iconic singer and activist Cyndi Lauper, who we joined at the West Hollywood Pride Parade this June, promoted VOTE411 as an election resource on her Instagram.
The League's work was featured on numerous major and local news outlets. MSNBC featured CEO Celina Stewart on "Morning Joe," where she discussed the importance of NVRD.

Teen Vogue also shouted-out LWV and VOTE411, sharing our work to "set up informational stands for voter registration, visit schools to educate young people on how to vote, and provide many resources and voting guides."
