The School Building Committee has approved a plan, “Bloom” for the new high school and building on the current playing fields in the Center. Do you support this decision? If not, what would you propose as an alternative?

I support the Bloom design located on the playing fields. From the beginning I thought the best path to a new high school was to build on the playing fields, specifically the football field, then demolish the existing school buildings and rebuild the field. This has happened in other communities, so there are examples of how to do things, such as sports schedules during this time frame.  In addition, this will be the least disruptive for the students during construction.

There has been discussion about construction adjacent to existing facilities might negatively impact the school day. Due to the fact that most towns in our area are out of the space needed to build a new facility, many schools, including our own new Estabrook and Hastings, were built close to the existing schools with minimal, but unavoidable disruptions.
