WASHINGTON, CHEYENNE — The League of Women Voters of the United States and the League of Women Voters of Wyoming issued the following statement honoring former Vice President Dick Cheney:

"Dick Cheney was a public servant whose long career reflected a deep commitment to the institutions of our democracy and the responsibilities of citizenship. Serving as Wyoming’s sole representative in the US House, as secretary of defense, and later as vice president, he dedicated his life to public service and to the governance of our nation.

"In recent years, Vice President Cheney spoke powerfully about the importance of putting ‘country above partisanship to defend our Constitution.’ His words served as a reminder that loyalty to democratic principles and the rule of law must always transcend political affiliation.

“The League of Women Voters honors his service to the people of Wyoming and the United States, and we extend our condolences to his family and to all who mourn his passing.”
