The  annual meeting of the Holland League of Women Voters will be at the Macatawa Bay Yacht Club on Thursday, June 7, with cocktails at 6:00 pm, dinner following.  The speaker is Kathleen Bruinsma, an attorney with McShane & Bowie PLC who has a special interest in voting rights.

Kathleen Bruinsma has been a longtime advocate for voting rights. In 2008, 2010, and 2014, she served as a voter protection attorney in Michigan and Indiana, monitoring polling places during both the primaries and presidential elections. In 2012, she served as the West Michigan Regional Deputy Director of the Organizing for America Voter Protection Program, training other voter protection workers and monitoring election day activity. Kathleen earned her bachelor’s degree in political science in 1992 from Providence College with honors. From 1992 to 1994 Ms. Bruinsma worked as a Legislative Director for the Boston Mayor’s office. Since earning her law degree from the University of Notre Dame Law School in 1997, Ms. Bruinsma has represented businesses in state and federal courts.
