League of Women Voters Downers Grove Woodridge
Statement on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
Dated as of May 2026
The League of Women Voters of the United States (the “League”) is a non-partisan organization
that works to empower voters and support democracy. The League develops positions through
grassroots study, consensus, and member delegate votes. The League engages in advocacy
and education in support of those positions approved by its members at the local, state, and
national levels. Importantly, the League does not endorse or support any individual political
candidates or political parties.
The League of Women Voters Downers Grove, Woodridge, Lisle (“LWVDGWL”) is the local
League branch working to promote political responsibility through informed and active
participation in government. LWVDGWL works to protect and expand voting rights and ensure
everyone is represented in our democracy.
The League and LWVDGWL have been fully committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion, in
principle and in practice for many years. In 2020, LWVDGWL created a policy on diversity,
equity and inclusion, and regularly reviews the policy to ensure it continues to reflect this
commitment in an ever-changing world. It states in part that “(we) are committed to fostering,
cultivating and preserving a culture of diversity, equity, inclusion, access and belonging for all
people. (We) respect and value the richness of our community and our members. The
collective sum of our individual differences and life experiences represents not only our culture
but our reputation and the organization’s mission and achievements as well.”
As President of the LWVDGWL, I am proud to publicly affirm our commitment to diversity, equity,
and inclusion, and to our commitment to respect and value the peaceful, respectful exchange of
ideas that reflects multiple perspectives and identities. We work to break down barriers and to
welcome all to our community.
In League,
Marianne Hunnicutt
President
League of Women Voters Downers Grove, Woodridge, Lisle
