On August 8, 2026, LWV hosted a day of civic action, Unite and Rise for Voting Rights!

Hundreds of Leagues across the country hosted events centered on voter engagement, turnout, and education, emphasizing young voters and community partnerships.

Below is a look at some of the events!

Attendees at our anchor event in Philadelphia, PA, went to a teach-in focused on disabled and formerly incarcerated people's voting rights. To close the event, folks wrote postcards to 200 high-opportunity voters.

League of Women Voters of the Pikes Peak Region's (TX) Youth Council collaborated with partner organizations to inspire youth to get civically engaged.

In Phoenix, AZ, Latino and Native American community members shared firsthand experiences with voting and civic participation and identified ongoing barriers to the ballot. Displays highlighted the work of great Latino and Native American artists.

In Detroit, MI, attendees gathered for "Poetry and Politics" with Detroit Poet Laureate Jessica Care Moore and other local artists. Attendees included LWV board president Sania Irwin, CEO Celina Stewart, and chief of staff haley griffin. 

Folks in Atlanta, GA, took action all weekend, starting with a civic block party on Friday followed by an intergenerational teach-in on Saturday.

The League of Women Voters of Williamson County, TX, started the day with speakers discussing election laws and changes to voting, and then set up information tables where participants could register to vote, check their registration, and learn how to become more involved in civic work.

In Berkeley, CA, students, community members, and local government officials came together for intergenerational conversations about voting rights and civic participation, including a youth-led Civic Action workshop.

The Philadelphia activation took place at Harriett's bookstore, a shop named for Harriett Tubman that celebrates women artists, authors, and activists.

We loved seeing all the fun voting swag on site, like this embroidery from LWV of the Pikes Peak Region!

There was a full house at the LWV Tarrant County, TX, event. This event discussed the influence of Christian nationalism on voter access across Texas.

The Phoenix event showcased visual art by various Hopi, Gila River, and Navajo local artists, like Angelo Cortez.

The day of action may be over, but it's always the right time to Unite and Rise. We encourage you to empower voters and defend democracy today by:

1. Registering to vote (or checking your registration) at VOTE411.org.
2. Sending a letter to your representatives on issues that matter to you, like voting rights, women's equality, or ICE funding.
3. Spreading the word about Unite and Rise to your friends!
