Former LWVCM and LWVNC president Karen Bean has written a history about LWVNC League litigation "League of Women Voters of North Carolina: Litigation as a Tool for Action, 2011-2020" which prominently features Charlotte member Mary Klenz in the pursuit of fair voting.
League has worked since its founding 100 years ago to educate voters and advocate for issues. In addition, the League has served as a friend of the court in cases such as the 1970 landmark decision in Swann vs. the Board of Education.
It was In 1974 that the League "waded deeper into litigation," according to Bean, "using litigation as an action tool." Since then, the LWVNC League has been the plaintiff in numerous cases ranging from environmental issues to fair voting districts and voter ID, among many.
