LWVCM is proud to announce Robert Wilson as our guest speaker for the virtual April 13 Lunch With the League-11:30 AM-1:30 PM. His talk will focus on Voting Rights, Fair Elections, Social Justice, and Governmental Diversity.

Mr. Wilson, a former candidate for Lt. Governor in 2016, retired in late 2012 from a notable 30-year career in NC state government. His experience includes working with both the NC Community College system and the NC Department of Corrections. Prior to his retirement, he served as Assistant Secretary of State and Chief Legislative Liaison. During his extended time in Government, he was widely recognized for his ability to win bi-partisan support for legislation and his advocacy for increased governmental diversity.

He is a passionate supporter of public-school teachers, improved schools, and improving labor practices for increased wages. He believes in a living wage, asserting that “No one should work 35-40 hours a week and still live in poverty.”

Mr. Wilson is the recipient of many honors including the Order of the Long Leaf Pin (NC’s highest civilian award) and the Laurel Wreath Award presented by Governor Beverly Purdue in 2010. He is a member of the Fayetteville State University Athletic Hall of Fame having been a player for the Championship Bronco Basketball Team in 1972-73 CIAA. 

He currently serves on the Carter Center’s NC Advisory Council promoting Fair, Safe and Secure State Elections. Please make plans to attend the April Lunch With the League to hear Robert Wilson speak on these timely and critical topics.
