LWVCM is honored to present Nicole Dozier-Director of the Health Policy Advocacy Project at the NC Justice Center as our guest speaker for the virtual March 15th League Talk. The NC Justice Center is a strong voice for social and economic justice working to eliminate poverty in NC.
Thirty-eight states have opted for Medicaid Expansion. Despite the offer of 1.7 billion in Federal incentives to do so, North Carolina still refuses to ensure its low- income citizens. Money allotted to North Carolina could grant an estimated 600,000 North Carolinians vitally needed coverage but regrettably is dispatched to other states. Our state’s acceptance of Medicaid Expansion, heavily supported by public opinion, would benefit local state economies, provide money for other essential needs, and increase the number of health care jobs.
Although the state budget excluded expansion of Medicaid, a ray of hope is represented by the formation of a legislative committee to consider ways access to health care and insurance could be improved for North Carolinians.
Director Dozier, a health policy advocate and former locally elected official, is recognized for her 25-year record working within the public policy industry. The former Mayor Pro Tempore of Apex, NC, she serves on the boards of NC Community Shares and NC Council of Churches.
