LWVCM is delighted to announce Mayor Jennifer Watson Roberts as the speaker for the League Talk on November 16th -In a ZOOM platform, she will speak on The Carter Center’s NC Program on Conflict Resolution in the 2022 elections. Bringing her vast knowledge and experience with democratic institutions and networking, Mayor Roberts will explain her work leading the Carter Center’s NC program in advance of the 2022 elections. The Carter Center’s initiative in NC, mirroring seven other target states, aims at building networks promoting non-violence and trust in our elections. The networks will include business, community, and faith leaders, elected officials, non-profits and educators representing diverse political viewpoints. Attendees will learn about the project and ways the League might help in its mission.
A Champion for education, equality, inclusion and an indefatigable advocate for environmental justice, Jennifer Roberts was elected Charlotte’s 58th Mayor after 4 terms as a Mecklenburg County Commissioner. Her illustrious career prior to entering the political arena includes teaching high school math, serving as a U.S. State Department diplomat, international banking, and serving as an adjunct professor at UNC-Charlotte. Currently occupied as a speaker, author, and consultant on climate change, campaign strategy and leadership, she heads the Carter Center’s NC Program on Conflict Resolution.
Mayor Roberts has a BA in English with highest honors at UNC-Chapel Hill; and MA’s from the University of Toronto, and John Hopkins School of Advanced Studies. In addition to myriad awards and recognitions, she’s the recipient of the Maya Angelou Women Who Lead Award and theWomen Business Owner’s Public Policy Leader of the Year.
