U.S. Supreme Court Reinstates Witness Signature Requirement!

In South Carolina if you vote absentee by mail, you must have someone sign to witness your signature on the back of the ballot return envelope.  Anyone can witness your signature. It does not have to be a notary public or a registered voter, and there is no age requirement. A witness can be a friend or family member.

According to the October 5 Supreme Court decision, mail-in ballots received at the county elections office by close of business on Wednesday, October 7, will be accepted if they do not have a witness signature. Ballots with no witness signature received after that date will not be counted. Check the status of your mail-in ballot at scvotes.gov. Click on “Check Your Absentee Ballot.”
