LWV Voter Services Activities

Registering voters in Sumter
The League of Women Voters actively encourages and supports all eligible citizens to register and to vote in national, state, and local elections.

The League  holds voter registration drives:
  • On National Voter Registration Day – the 4th Tuesday of September each year.
  • In high schools for students, teachers, and staff.
  • At community events.
  • For the homeless.
  • For those in trouble with the law who are eligible to vote.
  • For those with limited mobility, such as seniors and those without access to transportation. 
The League informs voters about candidates and Issues:
  • Online at VOTE411 where voters can preview their individual ballots, compare candidates, and read about ballot measures. 
  • At candidate forums. Candidates for a specific office answer questions and discuss issues;  the public is invited.  These are generally at the state and local levels. 
  • Through information brochures on candidates and issues in upcoming elections. 
The League helps Individuals learn where and how to vote. We: 
  • Provide information and clarify how to vote in person or absentee by mail. 
  • Help individuals get to the polls safely and use proper procedures.
