Time Range For Action Alert:May 13, 2019 to May 27, 2019
Please urge the Senate Health & Human Services Committee to stop our high suicide rates and move HB 3980 onto the Senate floor.
- Suicides rates among all ages in Texas are increasing, up by 23% since 2000. Among 55-64 year olds in Texas, suicide rates went up by 55%.
- In 2017, 1 in 8 high school students in Texas reported at least one suicide attempt in the past year.
- Texas does not have comprehensive, long-term data on how often suicide happens across different ages, areas, and groups in the state.
- HB 3980 provide state agencies and the legislature with a comprehensive look at the rising rates of suicide among all age groups and communities in order to help identify meaningful steps to reverse alarming trends.
