Support Public Education in Texas

Students in School Classroom with Hands up.
Time Range For Action Alert:
January 31, 2019 to May 30, 2019

All Texas children deserve to receive a high-quality education. Texas needs a school finance system that provides adequate funding and the equitable distribution of funds.  Property taxes constitute the primary funding source for public education in Texas. This over-reliance on property taxes causes reductions in, among other things, school staff salaries and school maintenance prevents the addition of early childhood education, burdens those least able to pay, and exacerbates the disparity between rich and poor school districts.

The League opposes school vouchers. Vouchers use taxpayer dollars to fund private, for-profit and religious schools. Numerous studies show that vouchers do not produce greater academic gains than public schools.

As a constituent, your legislator listens to you. Please take a few minutes to use this action alert to contact your own State Rep. and Senator. Tell them that you support the adequate and equitable funding of public education and oppose the use of school vouchers.
