The General Election is competitive, exciting and important! Voters have a chance to make a difference for themselves, their family and community!

Wow! What a great turnout we had for National Voter Registration Day. Leagues were out in force all across Texas!

Give a big cheer to our two newest Leagues -- LWV Montgomery County and LWV Bell County. They were empowering voters in their communities. Other areas where we have Leagues forming include Bell County, Brazoria County, Palacios, ….

Now it is time to put that energy into Getting out the Vote (GOTV)! Everyone should commit to ensuring 5 friends get to the polls! As the LWV Waco president Ivy Hamerly said “The General Election is almost here. Let’s have a voting palooza!”

Our nonpartisan Voters Guide will be up and ready for voters to research their vote before early voting. Find the Voters Guide at www.VOTE411.org or www.LWVTexas.org.

Fundraising and Action

Impactful League action requires committed volunteers and funding. You are the key to both -- it is critical you do both! Here are two easy ways support your passion and commitment to the League.

Try a Facebook Fundraiser for your next life event – it’s a fun way to help the League empower voters and defend democracy. We are the Facebook generation. Are you noticing Facebook Fundraisers? I decided to try it for my birthday in August. I set a “stretch” goal of $1,000 – and offered to match up to $500. (You set your goals to match your community of family & friends.) I was pleasantly surprised that I exceeded my goal! The donors included League friends from Texas and around the country, my close personal friends and family, as well as a few casual acquaintances. Their gifts to the League were the best birthday presents I could get! Some gave to the League for the first time ever – the best present of all.

Donate to LWV-Texas with a Charitable Rollover Gift

Are you 70 ½ or older and have an IRA? Take advantage of a simple way to donate to the League of Women Voters and receive tax benefits in return. Make a charitable rollover from your IRA. You pay no income taxes on the gift. The transfer generates neither taxable income nor a tax deduction, so you benefit even if you do not itemize your deductions. If you haven’t taken your required minimum distribution for the year, your IRA charitable rollover gift can satisfy all or part of that requirement. For more information about charitable rollover gifts click here.

Election Protection

The League of Women Voters is a member of the Election Protection Coalition. Please consider volunteering as a poll monitor, trainer, or volunteer attorney.
