Specifically the League believes that additional substance abuse treatment is needed and should include:

  1. Outpatient, residential and long term treatment facilities
  2. Treatment for adults, youth 13-17 years and children to age 13 years
  3. A detox treatment facility
  4. Operation of facilities by private enterprise, donations and a combination of public funds (local, state and federal)
  5. Governing boards appointed by sponsoring organizations (i.e. churches, school districts, medical groups, counseling groups)
  6. Coordinated efforts between all facilities
  7. If necessary to fund additional facilities, the League supports a tax increase at the local, state and county levels, with approval and cooperation of LWV of those levels.
