Legislative Interviews 2023
Every two years, the League of Women Voters California (LWVC) asks local leagues to interview their regional legislators. Legislative interviews are a powerful tool-increasing League visibility, gathering information, and raising awareness among California’s state representatives about our interest in policies they are considering.
LWVC provides four interview questions for every League in the state to ask. They were:
- Q1. Shrinking California’s Voter Participation Gap
- Q2. Equitable Funding for California’s School Facilities Program
- Q3. Sustainable and Equitable Water Resource Management
- Q4. Personal Legislative Priorities of Legislator.
We chose the option to ask an additional question related to our local issues:
- Q5. With the State Budget deficit for next year- how will you maintain focus on local priorities in your district such as housing and mental health?
LWV-Santa Maria Valley teamed up with Leagues from Ventura, Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo to conduct interviews with the following local legislators.
- Salud Carbajal, CA 24th Congressional District US Representative
- Monique Limon, CA 19th Senate District State Senator
- Greg Hart, CA 27th State Assembly District State Assemblyman
Representatives we met with were very enthusiastic and knowledgeable of the topics we discussed, and they are engaged in efforts to address our question topics. We provided them with contacts in our Leagues, invited them to join us, and established connections with their staff.
After the interviews, we report on what the Legislators told us, and send the report to the State League (LWVC).
