In 2019, the film "Green Book" won the Academy Award for Best Picture. It depicts the journey of a working-class Italian-American bouncer serving as the driver for an African-American classical pianist during a tour through the racially segregated American South in the 1960s. The movie's title alludes to the "Negro Motorist Green Book," a guidebook offering safe travel accommodations for African-Americans during the Jim Crow era.

For those interested in learning more about the "Green Book," please join our upcoming Political Book Club meeting where we will discuss "Overground Railroad: The Green Book and the Roots of Black Travel in America" by Candacy Taylor. This New York Times Notable Book is the first to delve into the historical significance and lasting impact of the Green Book.

The meeting will be held at the end of June. More details will follow. If you are interested in joining the book club, please email Victoria Zhang at zhlihui [at] yahoo.com.
