Dr. Rebecca Scofield will present “CRT: What It Is and What It Isn't” at the League of Women Voters of Moscow Speaker Forum,12:00 noon on Wednesday (Jan.19).

Debates about the role of "critical race theory" in Idaho education have emerged in the past year, accompanied by many accusations of "indoctrination" of children. This term has been deployed in ways that are confusing and often at odds with how scholars have used this body of literature for decades. This talk will cover what critical race theory is, what it isn't, and touch on why it has become a lightning rod in the current culture wars.

Dr. Scofield was born and raised in Emmett, Idaho. She received her PhD in American Studies from Harvard University and is now an Associate Professor of American History and Chair of the Department of History at the University of Idaho. Her work on the history of rodeo and the performed American West draws on feminist theory, queer theory, and critical race theory.
