Join the League of Women Voters of Moscow for our Speaker Series event, Idaho Education: Coping with Short-Term Stress, Investing for Long-Term Success, presented by Robert C. Huntley.

Huntley will present information about a bill, the Education Funding Act of 2021, that he and other members of Totally Optimistic Advocates Dedicated to Students presented to Gov. Brad Little and all state legislators to consider in the 2021 legislative session. TOADS is a nonpartisan association of about 45 present and past school officials (both public and higher education) and miscellaneous patrons and collaborating organizations throughout the state.

Huntley, a trial lawyer since 1959, served as an Idaho Supreme Court justice from 1982-89 and was a member of the Idaho House of Representatives from 1965-67. In a case lasting 15 years, 1990 to 2005, Huntley sued the Legislature for school funding, culminating in a Supreme Court ruling that determined the system of funding schools is unconstitutional, a ruling that remains to this date. He is currently carrying one suit in federal court and another in state court asserting that schools are currently violating Article IX, Section 1, which requires that the Legislature must provide free common schools.
