Join the League of Women Voters of Moscow for our Speaker Series event, Revisiting HR 1 For the People Act and HR 4 Voting Rights Advancement Act, presented by Dylan Vargas at 12 p.m. PT.

U.S. House bills HR 1 (For the People Act), also now dubbed S1 in the Senate, and HR 4 (Voting Rights Advancement Act) are two cornerstone pieces of legislation the League of Women Voters of the US is advocating for at the federal level to bring about democracy reform. Since a 2013 ruling by the Supreme Court that stripped the original Voting Rights Act of much of its enforceable powers, many states have taken actions that threaten voting rights.

Vargas, LWVUS legislative and policy coordinator, will review the most important parts of both bills, specifically focusing on reforms to voting rights, money in politics and redistricting.

He is a graduate of Johns Hopkins University with a BA in political science. He works with more than 20 states supporting and informing their work on People Powered Fair Maps, the League's national redistricting project.
