Join the League of Women Voters Moscow for a Speaker Series presentation, Utilizing the New 988 Crisis and Suicide Prevention Lifeline, presented by Steve Button, board member of Suicide Prevention of the Inland Northwest. The event will be held at the 1912 Center Arts Workshop Room on Feb. 8 at Noon.
Button will talk about the 988 Crisis and Suicide Prevention Lifeline that was implemented in July 2022. He will cover the ways it can be utilized, how anyone can contact the number, how to access it and what callers can expect when they access it. He will also talk generally about how suicide is affecting our region in North Central Idaho and what else people can to do assist people who might be contemplating suicide.
Button has a master's degree in social work and served as a social worker for 29 years in the Lewiston School District prior to retiring in 2018. He has been involved in a number of volunteer positions over the years. He served as a hospice volunteer for 20 years. He is a founder of the Willow Center for Grieving Children and has continued to serve as a volunteer there for 25 years. Suicide prevention is another passion and Button has been involved with non-profits promoting suicide prevention in the region since 2003. He currently serves on the Board for Suicide Prevention of the Inland Northwest (SPIN). Additionally, Button is active in and on the Board for the Kiwanis Club of the LC Valley and also serves on the Board of Directors for St. Joseph Regional Medical Center.
