Under Attack: The State of Democracy Around the World
Is the world’s democratic moment coming to an end? What does the future of democracy hold? Join us for our May Ideas Forum featuring Dr. William Muck, Professor of Political Science at North Central College. Professor Muck will explore global trends in democracy, highlighting data showing that in every region of the world, democracy finds itself under attack. He will explore the implications of this democratic decline and focus specifically on the case of American democracy. How do you know when your democracy is in danger and how should you respond? He will also reflect on the dramatic actions taken by the Trump administration and offer thoughts on how they fit within this broader anti-democratic moment.
William Muck is the chair of the Political Science Department as well as the coordinator for the College’s Global Studies program. He teaches a variety of courses on international politics and foreign policy. His scholarship focuses on international security, the practice of military intervention, and the pedagogy of promoting civic engagement. He has been active in presenting research at various international studies conferences around the world.
Open to all but registration required.
