Let's Talk About It: Women's Suffrage Martha S. Jones, "Vanguard: How Black Women Broke Barriers, Won the Vote, and Insisted on Equality for All"

Tuesday, April 26, 2022 - 7:00pm
Our third book in our discussion series turns to the efforts of Black women in the fight for suffrage. Martha S. Jones' book, Vanguard: How Black Women Broke Barriers, Won the Vote, and Insisted on Equality for All, introduces us to women leaders who insisted that the phrase "equality for all" be taken literally. Facing opposition from within national women's suffrage organizations and their own communities, we will be taken on a journey from the aftermath of the Revolutionary War to the present.

Leading our discussion series is Joshua Fulton, Associate Professor of History, Moraine Valley Community College. Professor Fulton will open the program, bringing the book to life with insights and background on the author and the work. This will be followed by group discussion.

Let’s Talk About It: Women’s Suffrage is a humanities discussion project from the American Library Association (ALA) supported by the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH).
