Please join us for a co-sponsored virtual "luncheon" July 28th: The Pretrial Fairness Act: Pursuing Pretrial Freedom in Illinois Presented by Sarah Staudt, DIrector of Policy at Chicago Appleseed Center for fair courts.  The Pretrial Fairness Act was passed in January 2021 and will go into effect in just a few months in January of 2023. The law revolutionizes the way that the pretrial legal system in Illinois will function, and its passage was the result of tireless advocacy by community activists. This presentation will explore the origins of the new law, how the new system of determining pretrial jailing and conditions of pretrial release will work, and talk about what we can expect once the law is implemented on January 1, 2023.
