Gun violence and violence in general takes a huge toll every year; not only in lives lost and altered but in the trauma that lives on. On July 4th, there was a horrific mass shooting in Highland Park where 7 were killed and over 30 injured, and in Chicago that same day, 9 were killed and 52 injured. In light of these tragedies, the League of Women Voters of Lake County (LWV-LC) will sponsor a virtual forum on Tuesday, Sept. 13th, 2022 at 7pm central time, addressing what you can do as an individual working with public officials to reduce the plague of gun violence in your community, state, and America. Speakers:

Jose Santos Woss, Director of Justice Reform @Friends Committee on National Legislation (FCNL)
His work focuses on justice reform, election integrity, and policing. FCNL is a national non-partisan Quaker organization that lobbies for the values of peace, justice, and environmental stewardship. Jose will discuss his efforts to get dedicated congressional funding for “violence interrupter” programs nationwide.

 Kris Brown, President of Brady
Brady is a national organization that works across Congress, courts, and communities to end gun violence. Kris will speak about specific steps Illinois can take utilizing existing legislation, such as the Extreme Risk Protection Orders (ERPO).

Eric Rinehart, State's Attorney Lake County, Illinois
Eric Rinehart will talk about the violence interruption programs he is beginning in Lake County. He also will explain the work they are doing on gun violence prevention plans.
