The first step? All registered voters in Chicago and suburban Cook County can now fill out and submit an application for a vote-by-mail ballot.

Suburban Cook County voters: apply here: https://www.cookcountyclerk.com/agency/vote-mail

Your ballot will be mailed to you in late September or early October if you apply before October 1. After that, ballots should be mailed within 2 business days of the election authority receiving your application. You must mail in your completed ballot or return it to a secure collection box by November 3. Collection boxes will be available at early voting sites.

Early Voting

Early voting days and hours have been expanded. Early voting will begin 20 days before the election, rather than 15. On weekdays, voters may cast ballots from 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. On weekends and holidays, early voting hours will run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Curbside voting will be available at Early Voting sites.

Election Day Voting

Election Day, November 3, will be a state holiday, so all state, city, park, library and school sites will be available for polling places. This is intended to reduce reliance on private polling places, whose owners may refuse to let their building be used as a precinct. Once again, curbside voting will be available at polling places.
