Blog PostAddressing the Sex Trade and Sex Trafficking in Worcester: Survivors Leading Policy & Advocating Change
Guest Speakers are Nikki Bell, CEO of LIFT and Jayna Turchek, Director of Human Rights and Accessibility, ADA Coordinator for the City of Worcester.
“We are looking at gender based violence. People of all disparities including health, race, and poverty. It is not this conceived notion of choice.”
Nikki Bell, CEO of LIFT in Worcester, provides us with a narrative to better understanding of “the world’s oldest oppression”, and Worcester’s community response to commercial sexual exploitation. Living in Freedom Together, Inc. (LIFT) is a survivor-led nonprofit organization where survivors of systems of prostitution collaborate with allies to provide support to survivors of the sex trade and sex trafficking populations that are routinely neglected and marginalized by society.
Jayna Turchek serves the City of Worcester as the Director of Human Rights and Accessibility, ADA Coordinator. She supports the work of the Human Rights Commission, Accessibility Advisory Commission, and Advisory Committee on the Status of Women in addition to providing technical assistance to city departments and the general public on a range of civil and human rights topics.
