Want to vote in the November general election? First you need to register! Luckily, registering to vote in Michigan has never been easier. Check out michiganvoting.org to learn more.

Michigan voters can register to vote at any time up until 8 p.m. on Election Day, but we encourage them to register as soon as possible. The earlier someone registers, the more options they will have for how to register.

To start, voters can check to see if they’re already registered to vote where they live by visiting michigan.gov/vote, clicking on “your voter information,” and entering the required information.

Those who are not registered, or who are not registered to vote where they live, have many options:

If someone is registering before October 25 (i.e., prior to the 14th day before the election), they can register:

Online (if they have a valid Michigan driver’s license or state ID)

  • At a Secretary of State branch office
  • At their city or township clerk’s office or their county clerk’s office
  • At any state agency that provides public assistance or services to those with disabilities
  • By mailing in a completed voter registration application postmarked no later than October 24 (i.e., the 15th day before the election)
  • Through a voter registration drive

If they’re registering on October 25, (i.e., the 14th day before the election) and through 8 p.m. on November 8 (Election Day), they have one way to register to vote: by visiting their city or township clerk’s office and providing proof of residency.
