Congress is currently considering a budget package that would slash Medicaid funding, putting millions of American’s health care coverage at risk.

Tell Congress not to endanger the health of our country.

The League’s Position

Statement of Position on Immigration, as announced by the national board, April 2008:

The League of Women Voters believes that immigration policies should promote reunification of immediate families; meet the economic, business, and employment needs of the United States; and be responsive to those facing political persecution or humanitarian crises. Provision should also be made for qualified persons to enter the United States on student visas. All persons should receive fair treatment under the law.

The LWV of Alachua County Gun Violence Prevention and Safety committee will be tabling at the Community Care Callout being hosted by Impact GNV and 1000 Voices of Florida. The event is being held to support those who were present at the incident on Easter Sunday, those who may be impacted or triggered, and those for whom it hits close to home. LWVAC will be providing gun locks and information on gun safety. Volunteers are needed. Contact us to get involved.

LWVAC's Gun Violence Prevention & Safety Committee will meet by Zoom on the third Tuesday of each month. We are brainstorming what we can do to augment the efforts of the other community partners are doing to prevent gun violence and promote gun safety.

Our Health Care Committee, co-chaired by Barbara Frentzen and Kim Walsh-Childers, is hosting its next meeting in person at Oak Hammock. They will follow up on earlier discussions and plan actions to take in the community. The meeting is open to all LWVAC members and may be available by Zoom as well.
