The White Plains Common Council held its regular monthly meeting on April 6, 2020 via videoconference. At this meeting, a public hearing on a site plan amendment for 1236 Mamaroneck Avenue was adjourned until May 4. The hearing for the redevelopment of 440 Hamilton Avenue was held and written comments will be accepted until April 17.

It also took the following actions:

  • Approved about $41,700 in tax refunds due to reduced property assessments
  • Accepted a grant of $11,700 for a nutrition program.
  • Approved the replacement of the roof of the Starbucks building on Main St.
  • Approved site plans for the redevelopment of the YMCA building and White Plains Mall sites. In each case the developer decided to opt out of some or all of their affordable apartment obligation and pay a fee to the city instead, providing almost $7 million for the city’s Affordable Housing Fund. They also approved a governmental use permit for an overnight shelter at 65 Lake Street.
  • Approved a three-year program to provide sunscreen dispensers in public parks and playgrounds sponsored by Creative Advertising Concepts, Inc. and the White Plains Hospital.

The council set public hearings for May 4 for the 2020/21 city budget and for the sewer rent surcharge.

No Citizens to be Heard session was held.
