Tuesday September 24 was National voter Registration Day. LWVWP members and volunteers from the Spelman College Alumni, and the sorority sisters of Alpha Kappa Alpha and Delta Sigma Theta were part of a nationwide effort to register new voters in advance of the 2019 elections.
This year we had tables at Berkeley College, College of Westchester, Manhattanville College, and the Galleria Mall, and we are grateful to each of these organizations for their enthusiastic support.
Voter Service chairperson, Barbara Noach, said “…. the White Plains League and our fabulous volunteers registered a total of 113 new voters, handed out 21 absentee ballot applications and gave out 13 forms to be mailed in later – not too shabby!” And when News12 Westchester visted College of Westchester, Barbara was interviewed. She commented on the importance of registering students to vote, "[w]e run into young people who aren't sure what they're voting on or what elections are coming up. They don't have the awareness so it's nice to bring it onto their horizon."
