This past winter, the League began a series of programs around the theme of “All Politics is Local,” starting with a discussion with members of the school board in our community.

For many citizens, “court,” participating for example, as jurors, witnesses, litigants, is another significant memorable interaction with government.  Our members asked us for a program on how the NYS Judiciary is structured, how judges are chosen and how we can make informed choices of whom to vote for when judges are elected.

Continuing our theme, we provided such a program to 51 attendees on October 18 entitled: All Politics is Local – Understanding the NYS Judiciary.  We were fortunate to have as our presenter the Honorable Kathie Davidson, currently the Dean of the NYS Judicial Institute, located here in White Plains, following a long career as a lawyer and judge.  She helped us to understand the system and how judges are appointed and elected.  She is eager to work with the League to help shape future conversations with judicial candidates  and voters.
