Vote 18

Vote 18

A central mission of the League of Women Voters is to educate and empower voters.  We do this in many ways in the White Plains League and one of our most successful initiatives is Vote 18.  LWVWP visits local high schools to talk with seniors about the road to voting rights for all, the struggle to protect voters' rights, and the importance of all elections. At the conclusion of each class we register eligible seniors to vote and to celebrate that milestone with them.

Voter registration is an important activity for our League and we invite LWVWP members to join us at the schools. We have a lesson plan with step-by-step procedures, provide orientation for presenters and we pair new presenters with experienced League members.  In collaboration with our school partners we’ve registered hundreds of students in the past and we’re proud of our success.

Vote 18 in 2020

In 2020 early voting in the Presidential primaries commences on April 18, so to make it possible for students to be eligible to vote in that primary we ran the Vote 18 sessions in February.

We visited Stepinac High School on
Tuesday February 4, and Woodlands High School in Greenburgh on Tuesday February 11.
