The League of Women Voters of Rensselaer County will hold a candidate forum for the District 1 Troy County Legislature position available due to the sudden death of legislator Ed Manny in June. The forum will take place Tuesday, October 23rd, at 7pm in the Bush Memorial Hall of Russell Sage College, 50 1st Street, Troy. Republican candidate Kim Ashe-McPherson will face the Democratic candidate, Carole Weaver. A brief introduction to the role and functions of county government will be provided by Stephen Schechter, Professor of Political Science at Russell Sage College.
The winner of this race will serve the three remaining years of Mr. Manny’s term. Though this election will occur with other mid-term elections on November 6th, it is actually a special election that presents a unique opportunity for voters to learn more about their county government and the country legislature. If you are uncertain about what county government actually does, this forum will give you a chance to find out more about the candidates and what they hope to accomplish once in office. The League urges Rensselaer County residents, and especially those in District 1, to inform themselves before November 6th by attending this event.
