Join us this month for a discussion with Angela Merkert, Melissa Pickett and Elaine Sullivan of Alliance for Local Economic Prosperity as they make the case to establish a public bank for New Mexico to:

  • Create a healthier, more diversified economy, given the environmental, water sufficiency, and climatic challenges facing the next decade and beyond;
  • Manage New Mexico's financial resources to be sure to provide culturally-inclusive social and economic development; and
  • Foster lifelong educational opportunities, healthy lifestyles, economic justice, and equitable access to public services and facilities for everyone.

Angela Merkert, Executive Director: Angela is a former professor of education who has held executive director roles in several nonprofit organizations. She says, “Throughout my career, my passion has focused on enacting change that strengthens our democracy through social and economic justice; affirming dignity and respect for every person; and increasing access to and engagement with quality education for children, especially early childhood programs.”

Melissa Pickett, Outreach Coordinator: Melissa is a former banker, organizational development consultant, and a health and wellness advocate. As a native New Mexican, she has a long view of the challenges we face and sees the potential for our state.

Elaine Sullivan, Chair of the AFLEP Board of Directors: Elaine's career was in organizational consulting. She came to public banking as a volunteer advocate for social and economic justice.
