Members of the League of Women Voters of White Plains met last night to discuss proposed changes to the state League's Healthcare position. White Plains League member Steve Rabinowit, a member of the LWVNY Healthcare position review committee, briefed attendees on the proposed changes.
Changes to the League of Women Voters of New York (LWVNY) positions on healthcare and the financing of healthcare include: 1) feasibility criteria for single-payer financing in NYS; 2) favored cost-control methods to guide any reforms; and 3) revisions to reflect changes in medical practice and care.
LWVNY has long recognized that the structure, delivery, and financing of healthcare is one of the major issues of our time and has advocated for equity in Americans’ access to healthcare.
LWVNY’s positions on healthcare and the financing of healthcare (originally adopted in 1985, and last revised in 1991) require updating in order to consider the manner in which single-payer legislation, such as the NY Health Act, could be fiscally viable.
The following materials from the LWVNY Healthcare committee are availble.
