The League of Women Voters, along with many other civic organizations, are united around the common goal that redistricting must be transformed to allow more voices to participate, be heard, and ultimately be represented.
Traditionally, redistricting has been a secretive and exclusive process. Consequently, many people have been, and continue to be, intentionally excluded from voting through gerrymandering.
Among many other topics, you will map and learn about Communities of Interest. Should Oak Ridge and Knoxville be in one Congressional district because they are an economic and educational Community of Interest - rather than with Chattanooga? You can map these together and find out!
CHARGE has nine organizations, including the League, who are sponsoring the CHARGE Restricting Community College Trainings. These are free and are on zoom.
This is a really fun training that uses free and user-friendly software to help you actively engage in the 2021/22 redistricting process - at every level of government from your local school boards, county/city districts. and congressional redistricting. This training has received excellent reviews from Leagues across the country.
The CHARGE Redistricting Community College is a 6-part series. From beginning to end, the entire training is 4 hours. The live trainings include breakout workshops to give you hands on practice.
