Meeting Summary:

 The meeting was called to order at 6:00 p.m. and began with the pledge of allegiance, roll call, and motion to adopt the agenda.

COMMUNITY COMMENTS

• One community member asked about the process for choosing a school for special education students due to the fact that some of the costs for a single student are very expensive. Is there a cap on how much the school will spend per pupil?
• Response by Connie Baldwin, Treasurer: The process involves a collaborative effort with parents and the special education coordinator. They try to keep the student in the least restrictive environment; when possible they keep students in the school with special services provided. There is no cap on individual students. Ms. Baldwin explained that the state has eliminated most external special education programs (e.g., Happy Day School) so when a student's needs cannot be met in-house the district has to utilize private schools/services which are more expensive.

TREASURER'S REPORTS/RECOMMENDATIONS: (all were approved unanimously with no discussion)

• Accept a donation from a citizen to support Art Sparks at the elementary school
• Approve payment in lieu of transportation for two students living in Rootstown who will attend St. Vincent/St. Mary
• Remove two overhead projectors from inventory for disposal
• Renew contract with Shred-It Stericycle for 2022-2023
• Renew property/liability insurance for 2022-2023
• Approve participation in federal grants for 2022-2023
• Approve temporary appropriations for 2022-2023
• Approve permanent appropriations for 2021-2022
• Approve advances from general fund as necessary to close out 2022 fiscal year
• Renew contracts with Stark/Portage Area Computer Consortium for 2022-2023
• Approve contracts with KidsLink School, Educational Alternatives, Red Line Advocacy, Super Learning Center to education special needs students for 2022-2023
• Approve school lunch prices for 2022-2023 as follows - elementary lunch $2.75, elementary breakfast $2.00, middle school and high school lunch $3.00
• Award bread bid to Nickles Bakery, dairy bid to Prairie Farms, ice cream bid to Hershey's
• Approve agreement with Summit County ESC for 2022-2023
• Approve three workers to be compensated by OHSAA for working at baseball & softball tournament
• Approve National Honor Society purpose statement for holding a car wash

SUPERINTENDENT'S REPORTS/RECOMMENDATIONS (all approved unanimously)

• Two retirement resignations, three resignations
• 1-semester unpaid leave for one high school teacher
• Transfer of David Kennedy from music teacher to middle school principal
• Hire elementary counselor, high school science teacher, 5th-grade teacher, hs/ms music teacher, ms ELA teacher, 4th-grade long-term substitute, kindergarten long-term substitute, cafeteria worker, special services secretary, elementary school clerical secretary
• MOU with REA for hiring additional coaches and long-term substitute teachers
• Adjust Resident Educator Mentor's payment for 2021-2022
• Compensation for nine teachers who hosted student teachers in 2021-2022
• Set K-8 school fees for 2022-2023 at $45.00
• Hire three students for summer help at $10.00 per hour
• Hire three teachers to teach summer school at $20.00 per hour
• High school handbook and middle school handbook for 2022-2023
• Compensation agreement with Singleton Reels
• TransportatIon agreement with Martin and Kimberly Junior for 2022-2023

Superintendent:

• Thanked all students, parents, staff, community for a successful school year

• Head of Iarucci Foundation to update art program; with donation of Apple art tablets and art tables
